I sold not ONE but TWO books!

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

I am excited to announce that in the past week I’ve sold not one but two books! One is a nonfiction book titled, .An Extra Pair of Eyes, Adventures of theSheriff’s Department Senior Volunteer Patrol. It chronicals my two-year volunteer service with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department. It will be published by www.writewordsinc.com in the next month or so. In the book, you will follow the volunteers on the day of a tragic school shooting, stand with them as guard at the site of a plane crash, and many, many more exciting, sad and sometimes humorous adventures.

My second publishing triumph is a humorous mystery titled, Finder published by Wild Child Publishing and I’ll let you know the date. Finder is the story of Carol Reston, a suburban housewife who’s main dream in life is to publish a novel. When her husband find a dead body in the hills near their house, she’s finally got something interesting to write about. With the help of her Jaguar-driving/martini-drinking/much married aunt, Sissy Montgomery, she follows clues and helps the local cops find the solution to the mystery. Does she finally publish a book? You’ll have to read Finder to find out!

Can’t wait for the new books? Pick up a copy of Call Sign: Love, the number one bestseller on Fictionwise for August 2009 at www.writewordsinc.com.  For an intreguing romantic suspense novel, try Stormy Love. Like dark mysteries? Then you have to read, The Worst Evil. Both are available to order from Borders Bookstores or at the publishers website, www.whiskeycreekpress.com

Till next time….

“Now You See Me….” by Rochelle Krich – good but not great

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Molly Blume is a feisty crime reporter for a local Los Angeles newspaper. She also writes true crime books so when a Rabbi asks her to help find his run-away daughter, she jumps in and tries to help in spite of the bad feelings she has for the Rabbi because of something he did to her years ago. Because the daughter, Dassie, has lived all her life in the confines of the Jewish community, everyone is in a rush to rescue her before she’s hurt or worse sexually assaulted. That would ruin her life forever.

The book was slow and dragging in several sections but finally sped up and came to a satisfying conclusion. The ending was a surprise but….all the clues were there so I didn’t feel cheated. I enjoyed reading the book not only for the mystery but because Molly and her Rabbi husband and most of the characters are Orthodox Jews. Ms. Krich brings her readers into the tight knit community and shows us what it’s like to be an observant Jew. She has a glossary of Hebrew and Yiddish words in the back of the book to help the reader out. It’s not all gloom and doom and religion, there’s a lot of wit here, too.

I guess my one picky would be that Molly is too pushy. She goes places and does things that most women, outside of law enforcement, wouldn’t do. She withholds information from her contact at the police department, and then is stunned when he’s angry. But all in all, it was a good book and I enjoyed reading it.

Rochelle Krich as several series going and I’ve read books in all of them. She’s a good, solid entertaining writer so pick up either this book or one of her others. You won’t be disappointed.
