Favorite mystery authors?
When I meet new people and tell them I’m a mystery writer – and avid mystery reader, their first question is usually, “Who’s your favorite author?” Well, I have several and…it sort of depends on what I’ve just read.
I have to say the first name that always pops into my head is Joy Fielding. Never heard of her? Well, in my opinion, she’s one of the best. She features strong female protagionists and good mysteries. One of her earliest novels, “See Jane Run,” was made into a movie for television. It’s a great read. “Whispers and Lies,” is probably my favorite Fielding novel. She’s had a few less than stellar works, but hey, no one can hit a home run every time, right? I loved, “Grand Avenue,” “Mad River” both good. “Puppets” not so much.
One of the reasons I like this author is that every book is a stand-alone and has different characters. I admire that and the work it takes to create all those worlds. Too many mystery authors created a world full of characters and then simply spin them off into more and more books. It’s usually only sustainable for a while then I, for one, get bored. Depending on the cast of characters, you sometimes get that “Cabot Cove” syndrome.
So, share – Please! Who’s one of your favorite mystery writers – and why?

I like michael connelly, very much. His series with detective bosch is well written. I always am eager for his next work. I recently came across Bruen, who sets his stories in Ireland and england. He has a background in metaphysics and writes about randomness and evil. Also, Mankiel, a scandanavian author, is unique in his views and plot twists.
