Mystery movies

Saw a good one a few days ago. The hubby and I rented a few DVDs to watch over the weekend. One of them was, “The Brave One,” starring Jodie Foster. Very good. I won’t spoil the plot, but…she kicks a….! We also rented “No Country for Old Men.” We struggled through the mess waiting for the movie to make sense when - it just stopped! It didn’t end, it stopped. We all sat there waiting for the next scene (yes, even the dog) when the credits started to roll! Both my hubby and I said, “HUH?” The dog snorted and went back to continue her nap on our bed. It was dummer than a box of rocks. Well, it’s our fault. We vowed years ago never to watch an Academy Award winning movie because most of them are BAD! The one exception I can think of was “Fargo.”

I really miss Alfred Hitchcock. Now that man knew how to tell a story and had some fabulous mysteries. (As he said, he told stories about life with all the boring parts left out) A few years ago we signed up for NetFlix and I rented all the old Hitchcock films, “Rear Window,” North by Northwest,” “Dial M for Murder,” - all those great movies. I was surprised at how well the stories held up. Oh there were some funny things, like old rotary phones, but for the main part they were as scary and fun as ever. Ever see “Witness for the Prosecution?” Fabulous!

So, what’s your favorite mystery movie of all time? I’m still partial to “Rebecca.” Yes, I rented that one too and got chills from Mrs. Danvers. I just don’t understand why no one make great mysteries anymore. Agree? Let me know.

Til next time….

I totally disagree with you on No Country For Old Men! I loved, loved, loved this movie and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I remember thinking it was suspense at its absolute best. I’m not big on complicated plots, and I did have to ask my husband a few times “What the heck is that?” as far as the killer’s weapon and his satellite tracker. Without his guy-like understanding of gadgets, I might have been lost.

I also liked Fargo. And Rear Window is superb.

I loved Rebecca. I also liked Dial M For Murder (speaking of old movies). I haven’t seen No Country for Old Men. I’ve added The Brave One to my list. Thanks.
